The Parkour Project

For this project, I was inspired by Sara Messinger. She is a New-York based photographer who saw a bunch of teenagers hanging out at a local park. She decided to approach them to take their portraits. For such a spontaneous action, Messinger established an immense rapport with these teens, even spending every weekend with them, documenting their lives through photography.

The Parkour Project is similar in the sense that this parkour group that meets at Gateway Park is my ‘beat.’ I document each meetup, some with new faces, some with parkour veterans. This was a way for me to make new colleagues and document our relationships with one another… even though I’ve been especially bad going to the meetups recently 😬
Hopefully you get inspired to find your own photography ‘beat.’ Maybe meet up with a friend and always bring your camera with you to document what you do together. As you meet up more and more, how are they changing?
